I love the cute and fun part of Halloween like these cute and fun Oreo mummy pops! I mean come on.
My idea of cute and fun on Halloween is A LOT different than most people’s including my husband’s! I don’t find anything resembling a spider cute and/or fun because it evokes immediate anxiety. This dog SPIDER costume? ldkhellnolskdjfkdjfl!!!!! These probably delicious SPIDER cookies? a;dskfj;sldkfjls;dkjf yeah no. And THIS? asldkfjas;ldkjfas;ldkfj. I just died. I just. I just can’t.
Joe cannot wait until the neighbor kids are old enough to scare the living crap out of (and their parents won’t get mad because he’s traumatized their child)… He wants to buy the most scariest, ugliest, grotesque mask on the planet and jump out of the bushes and chase them around the neighborhood. I don’t know if I could handle a mask like that in the house….I would have nightmares that it was going to come get me….I slept with the light on for 2 weeks after watching The Blair Witch Project. … Which I will argue ’till the day I die that that movie was true….Mummy Oreos.
These are almost to cute to eat. Just kidding, anything Oreo doesn’t stand a chance!!!
Start by placing the sticks into each oreo. Put them in the freezer for 15 minutes.
Get a couple baking sheets lined with wax paper ready. Melt 2 bags of candy melts.
Dip each oreo into the melted candy and set each one on the wax paper. I flipped the baking sheet upside down so I didn’t have to deal with the lip of the tray.
It’s easiest to tilt the bowl when dipping the cookie. Try to work quickly because it will harden the longer it sits.
Put on their eyes. Hmm, that sounds funny. If they have hardened already, use some of the left over melted candy to dab on the cookie so it will stick.
Put them back in freezer to set.
Meanwhile, melt the final bag of melts and place it into a pastry bag or zip lock bag. Fit with a tip or (I used a Wilton #55) cut the edge of zip lock bag.
Before you start piping, slide the wax paper off the baking sheets and add new wax paper. You want to have this surface ready because you will need to work quickly before it hardens.
Start piping strips to make it look mummy-ish? Move them to the next wax paper before if hardens.
I made these before with white chocolate and used mini-chocolate chips for the eyes. I like the candy melts better because the white chocolate was harder to work with and had a yellowey hue. I also think the candy eyes gives them personality.
Take this guy for instance. He looks like he has had a stroke. His pupils are unequal.
and he looks oogley.
and this one looks delicious!
These can be made in an hour with no interruptions, bathrooms breaks, or photos…
